The city of Haifa

The biggest metropolitan area in Israel's northern region, the city of Haifa is located on the slopes of Mount Carmel  above the Mediterranean coastline. Haifa's unique combination of sea & mountain has made the city one of Israel's most important strategic towns; central both to the country's safety and its trade. To this day, the Bay of Haifa, Israel's only natural harbor, serves as one of the country's foremost industrial centers, having linked Israel to global economy as early as the 1940's.

However, many changes have taken place over the centuries & in recent years Haifa has become as known for its bustling industrial center as for its leading tech & computing industries, with some of the world's biggest corporations opening up outposts here.

Technion graduates comprise the majority of Israeli-educated scientists & engineers, constituting over 70% of the country's founders & managers of high-tech industries. Due to the ingenuity of Technion alumni, Israel is now home to the greatest concentration of high-tech start-up companies worldwide, outside of the Silicon Valley.

The high-tech industry now accounts for more than 54% of Israel's industrial exports, & over 26% of the country's exports. 135 out of every 10,000 workers in Israel are scientists & engineers, compared to the USA, in second place with 85 out of every 10,000 workers. Nine out of every 1,000 workers are engaged in R&D, nearly double the rate of the USA and Japan. 74% of managers in Israel's electronic industries hold Technion degrees.
